Common speaking question types
- Answer a short personal or daily-life question.
- Describe one picture or a simple sequence of pictures.
- Call a doctor, school, employer, shop, or gemeente.
- Explain a problem and ask for help or a new appointment.
Best practice strategy
Do not wait until your Dutch is perfect. Practise short answers with complete information. A clear simple answer is better than a long answer with many mistakes.
Sample question ideas
- Sample prompt: You call the huisarts. Say your name, explain that you have a fever, and ask for an appointment. Useful answer: Goedemorgen, mijn naam is Sara Khan. Ik heb koorts. Kan ik vandaag een afspraak maken?
- Sample picture task: You see a person at a train station looking at the timetable. Describe what is happening. Useful answer: De man staat op het station. Hij kijkt naar de tijden. Hij wacht op de trein.
Simple practice routine
- Read the prompt and choose three key details.
- Record a short answer.
- Listen once and notice missing information.
- Record again with a clearer sentence.
